03 May 09 Selling Digital Goods Online

Becoming more and more popular all the time as a method to make money online is by selling downloadable products. A digital good is simply a non-physical product that a user can download from a web site or from an attachment in their email.

Instant Gratification

The fact that a potential buyer can generally make their purchase and have the product on their computer within minutes makes selling digital products big business on the Internet.

The ebook is probably considered to be the most popular of all digital products. In addition to eBooks, people are also buying and selling products such as music, art, audio courses and much more.

Create Ebooks With Hyperlinks Using Free Software

Being that a huge part of the digital goods market is ebooks, a lot of people like to start there when creating a product for sale on the Internet.

PDF or Portable Document Format is the standard when creating ebooks. Your authoring software must be capable of creating a PDF file. There is plenty of software available to create PDF’s and most of them are free.

A lot of times in your ebook product you will want to include hyperlinks; or links to yours or other web sites. Most, if not all, of the free PDF creation software does not include the ability to export to PDF. There is a free way to get the PDF export capability built into authoring software at no charge.

OpenOffice.org provides an office suite of authoring applications for free. This business office suite mimics the Microsoft Office suite if that is what you are familiar with. This free software will also allow you to open and edit documents created with Microsoft’s product. OpenOffice.org’s office suite will allow you to export your documents into PDF format, including the hyperlinks, all for free.

Selling Other People’s Products

One simple way to get started in this business is to purchase other people’s products, along with the rights to sell the products to others. And to resell the product, you don’t even need a web site, you can offer your products up for sale on a digital marketplace for free, and have your products auto-delivered to the customer on your behalf. A perfect example of this is an audio course that I purchased for $5 and resold over and over again for $37 in the digital marketplace.
